About Chuma

I'm a Structural Engineer who recently graduated with a BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Cape Town. I’ve also received three academic accolades during my studies, and I’ve just started my career in the consulting engineering industry — so I know exactly what it’s like to be a student trying to juggle tough subjects and still do well. I offer tutoring in high school Math and Science, as well as first-year university Math and Science. I’ve always enjoyed helping others, and my goal is to make things simpler, more relatable, and a little less stressful. I come prepared, I’m patient, and I care about my students’ progress.

About the lesson

I like to keep my tutoring style relaxed and supportive, I know how tough Math and Science can feel sometimes, so I try to break things down in a way that actually makes sense. I focus on helping you understand the “why” behind things, not just memorizing steps. Once you understand the basics, everything else starts to click.

I offer one-on-one lessons for high school students (Math and Science) and also for first-year university students who need help with Math. Whether you’re struggling to keep up or just want to improve your marks, I meet you where you’re at and work at your pace.

I teach in English, but I can explain in isiXhosa too if needed, whatever helps you feel more comfortable. In a typical lesson, we go over the key topics you’re working on, do some practice together, and I give tips and tricks I’ve learned from my own experience studying and working in engineering.

My lessons are aimed at high school learners (Grades 8–12) and first-year Uni students doing Math and Science. If you're looking for someone who’s patient, explains things clearly, and really gets what it’s like to be in your shoes, I’ve got you.
