About Naomi-Ila

I am a current student at Chaffey College whose passions include the education and development of students and music teaching. I am 22 years old, married, with a baby on the way. I was previously a choral director's aide under a personal apprenticeship for three years and a general education tutor for a mix of students of all ages for six years. I was also previously a camp counselor at a daycare held by a water park summer program. I have a lot of patience with students because I grew up with teachers who are already so knowledgeable of whatever subject they are teaching that they forget that we are barely learning a portion of what the teachers know. It was always held against us when we didn't follow along as fast as they taught, and it was not an effective form of teaching because all their animosity did was make students hate the instructor and the subject. That is something I would never want for my students. My teaching is something I take a lot of pride in. I want students to feel like asking for help is never something to be ashamed of and that practice doesn't make perfect; it makes better, and that's all we can strive to be.

About the lesson

My tutoring age range spans from elementary through high school. However, I have mostly worked with either elementary or high school age groups. I specialize in English, reading, and writing, As well as children's (elementary to high school) and beginning college-level Music Theory. All of my lesson plans are built around starting from the primary point of what is inhibiting the students' learning and developing my plans from there. My teaching method is known as the learning-centered style. I am a reassuring teacher who wants to make the students feel that knowing and being able to use their knowledge is a benefit to themselves. I have worked with many students with various learning and or mental disabilities and understand that what works for one student doesn't work for another. That being said, despite my easy-goingness, I am not someone to be overrun by their students; at the end of the day, my priority as a teacher is making sure my students feel confident in what is being taught, and I know I made a positive impact on their academic development.
