About Alastair
Hi! My name is Alastair, I'm a second year university student at McMaster University. I've been passionate about science my entire life and chemistry has been especially dear to my heart! I've always enjoyed sharing what I know about science with the people around me and have participated in mentorship classes in high school to help younger students with their learning, and I recently had the opportunity to run a summer science camp for the YMCA. I think education - and especially science education - is one of the most important things in the world and I'm always happy to be able to participate in that process, both as a student and as a mentor. No question is a bad question when it comes to science, and I'm eager to answer them all!

When it comes to teaching, I prefer a bottom-up approach based on communication. Understanding what a person is struggling with and how they learn best is the key to successfully grasping concepts, along with a willingness to be adaptive. I'd begin each lesson by establishing a set of goals, then working with the student to develop an approach that will work best for them. I think my ability to approach problems in many different ways sets me apart, as it means I can often find a way to explain something that will make sense to anyone. As I am a second year university student, my lessons are best suited for those earlier in their academic careers than I am and I am happy to work with any age or education level!
