About Caleb
Hi! My name is Caleb Xiao and I am a Year 11 student currently studying at John Monash Science School. I have a passion for Mathematics and Science and want to help your children discover the beauty and intricacies of these two mechanisms of learning about the world. I believe that everyone can do well at mathematics (your child is no exception!) and that, more importantly, doing so will open up a new perspective on how to analyse the world. I wish to guide your child's learning and help them experience the same passion and excitement I have for these subjects!
When I have some downtime, I enjoy building Lego, playing video games, and playing with my dog. The odd spot of cooking (and, of course, eating!) and exercising also never fail to brighten my day!

Mathematics is something that surrounds us. In everything we can observe, there are mounds upon mounds of mathematics helping us to understand the whys and hows of the mechanisms that dictate so many phenomena in our world. Mathematics is the building block that allows us to investigate the way the world works! Isn't that amazing?!
What's sad to see, however, is the way people struggle to grasp mathematics, not because of any fault of themselves, but because no one has taught them properly. It's common to see people despite mathematics because their teachers haven't taught them what mathematics is supposed to be. You see, most of the time teachers will just tell their students to memorise this formula and apply it to this question without telling them the most important part: why mathematics is the way it is. They don't tell them why this formula is the way it is nor why these fundamental concepts are so important for future topics. Kids never learn to understand the beauty of mathematics and end up discarding it or struggling at it, not only affecting their scores but the way they process and view the world.
I want to change that. No longer will people see mathematics as this boring subject of a bygone era! Your children will learn to appreciate the mechanisms and flows of mathematics and learn not only the key formulas and knowledge of the subject but also how these formulas came to be, allowing them to apply what they know effectively. I don't want your kids to be bored either. We'll utilise engaging resources like videos and quizzes (such as Kahoots, Quizlets, etc.) to encourage active learning and reinforcement of key knowledge, with most of the teaching being done through one-on-one lessons where I will cater my lessons to suit the needs and learning style of your child as I get to know them to make sure they get the best education possible! Since I am not that much older than students, it'll create a warm and friendly environment where your children will feel comfortable and welcome. Your children will be encouraged to ask hard-hitting questions (if they stump me, it'll show how intelligent they are!), explore curiously, and come to love mathematics and all that it is! Their knowledge will be continuously established and retained through engaging worksheets and resources that I will provide to make sure their active brains soak up as much information as possible! Any specific topics of mathematics you wish to focus on for your child or any general questions you have about your child's learning are also welcome and encouraged, as parents often play a huge role in their child's education and one that should not be understated or ignored! From my experience teaching mathematics to people, all of it is dependent on cooperation and I wish for everyone to be able to contribute to the lessons!
