About Freya
I am a second year student mental health nurse based in Nottingham. I have an AS in Psychology so am only offering lessons at or below this level. Despite only having an AS qualification, I have hands on experience with individuals suffering with mental illnesses from a variety of areas including acute psychiatric care, personality disorders and acquired brain injuries therefore I am knowledgeable on the approaches to psychology, case studies, aetiologies of illnesses etc. Additional to this I have extensive writing skills to a university level.

My main teaching method is through situational education; explaining the science behind the illness and relating that to the aetiologies and presentation of the individual and how this can be treated through appropriate medications and therapies. I like to use the same approach for teaching case studies and theories, by relating it to a real life situation where this can be better understood. I like to ask questions at the end of the session to allow the student to think further outside the box whether it be a right or wrong answer, I believe it allows the student explore all possible perceptions of the subject and to recap on everything that has been discussed.
A structured example of a lesson on Freud's psychoanalytic theory of personality would include;
- Discussion on main topic points stating the component parts of the mind and simple explanations on each
- Relating the different components to different individuals within society to help visualize this.
- Discussion on how Freud believed this affected mental illnesses and how he believed it was due to which component in our personality is more persistent.
- Discussion on learnt topic and Q&A
