About Finlay
I am a student at GCSE, but have been programming for over 7 years, so my experience goes far beyond the curriculum. Many of those around me have found the teaching of programming at GCSE inadequate to allow them to complete programming tasks, so I've developed a different way of teaching it that is more flexible.
I've organised a club at my school for teaching and playing with programming. Through this, I've already taught several people.

My teaching method is based on helping people write their own programs from the ground-up.
Instead of writing out the same thing different times, I've found that helping students understand the logical steps they are creating and showing them the syntax for the steps they've come up with as they go is far more memorable and engaging, not only teaching how to write code but how also to think like a programmer.
To begin with, I help students design a simple text-based game involving all of the basic concepts they need for GCSE, then allowing them to expand the game (such as adding a computer player and changing its AI) as they see fit, later moving on to build whatever simple game they'd like using the same concepts.
