About Thomas

I am a recent GCSE graduate, having achieved 9 A* grades (8/9s), and I was previously awarded an academic scholarship to the City of London School at 11+. Having personally navigated both the 11+ exams and GCSEs, I understand the challenges and pressures students face. This experience allows me to share effective strategies (THAT ACTUALLY WORK!) while relating to students on a personal level. I aim to be approachable, supportive, and to make learning engaging and enjoyable. My goal is to help students build confidence, develop skills, and achieve their academic potential in a friendly and motivating environment. Not all students are the same - people learn differently. I had to find this out the hard way in my exam preparation, having tried every revision technique under the sun, I hope to be able to provide learning approaches that will effectively help each individual student reach their individual goals. So why should you hire a high school student over an adult professional? I actually know what it is like to take these exams. There is a pressure on you, from family, from yourself. No one will be in that examination hall aside from you. Unfortunately, a lot of these older tutors seem to forget that, or at least in my experience don’t provide the correct type of support for young people. Yes, they may be more qualified, however their methods of teaching and lessons don’t always appeal to or reflect the more ‘open’ mindset of our generation, as well as the current curriculums niches and the modern education space. With AI, among other platforms and services that make learning so different in today's age, I provide an approach that encourages students to utilise these resources in the correct way, as well as support them as a peer rather than a callous teacher. A little more about me as a person! I am 16, almost 17, with a passion for fashion and basketball (which I have been playing since 9 years old, training 4 times a week). I have a labrador whom I adore - I have always had a love for animals. I enjoy reggae music, hip-hop, jazz among other genres, however have never been musically gifted myself :( . I would like to consider myself a hardworking committed individual (but if I ever have to cancel a lesson don’t hold me to it). As well as teaching, I want to build a connection with my students on a personal level, getting to know them, as for me the most effective teachers did that exactly. About the lesson

I recently completed my GCSEs, achieving 9 A* grades (8/9s), and I was awarded an academic scholarship to the City of London School at 11+. Having gone through both GCSEs and 11+ exams myself, I know what it takes to succeed and how stressful the process can feel. My lessons are usually an hour long and tailored to each student’s needs, whether that’s preparing for 11+ entrance exams, improving GCSE performance, or simply building confidence in Maths and English. As well as this, if required, I am proficient in teaching Non Verbal/Verbal Reasoning if need be. I focus on clear explanations, practical exam strategies, and plenty of practice questions.
