About Marcus
Marcus is a 20-year-old saxophonist originally from Southampton, based in London during term-time, where he is in his 2nd year of a BMus (Hons) degree studying saxophone at the Royal College of Music. Since starting at the RCM, he has enjoyed opportunities to perform with the RCM Wind Orchestra, RCM Jazz Orchestra, RCM Saxophone Ensemble and regularly play in concerts with his saxophone quartet, the Cantilena Quartet.
With a passion for advancing music education, Marcus believes in sharing the gift of music with people from all backgrounds. His favourite moments growing up were performing with local city and county youth wind bands, experiences that inspired his commitment to music.
Marcus has been playing the saxophone for over 10 years, receiving training in both classical and jazz traditions. He holds the ARSM performance diploma with distinction in classical saxophone and a Grade 8 in jazz saxophone. He also completed an ARSM in piano. Before joining the RCM, Marcus was on the Hampshire Specialist Music Course at Peter Symonds College in Winchester.

Marcus is enthusiastic about teaching saxophone to students of all ages and abilities. He will be able to guide students from the basics through to Grade 6+ exams. Lessons will be specific to each student and range from 30 minutes to 1 hour, available both in person or online for added flexibility.
In his lessons, Marcus covers the fundamentals of saxophone playing, including breathing, embouchure, and technique. He also teaches music notation and theory to support expressive and musical playing. Above all, learning the saxophone should be enjoyable and rewarding.
While his specialism is classical saxophone, Marcus is also trained in jazz saxophone and can also provide guidance in this style.
Marcus is also able to provide basic piano accompaniment in rehearsal lessons.
