About Edward

Hi, I'm Ted! I've been teaching maths for about 5 years now, as well as teaching surfing and skiing on the side. I've only ever had positive feedback on my teaching, and recently won "Instructor of the Season" for getting the most positive reviews at my surf school.

On the maths side of things, I have helped several students to pass their GCSEs, which I have done by focussing on creating a relaxed working environment. I've just graduated with a 1st class master's degree in maths from the University of Bristol, and whilst I was at university I had the chance to get some of my work published. My main area is applied mathematics, with a focus on quantum mechanics, so I am well equipped to help undergraduates with more applied topics. I am also confident in statistics and other topics, and would love to help A level and GCSE students improve their maths skills.

About the lesson

In my teaching I look to provide students with a comfortable and forgiving learning environment. To this end, I encourage students to ask questions and make mistakes until they find the answers for themselves. Rather than just giving students a lecture, I prefer them to have a go themselves, and I will frame ideas in different ways until they fully understand the topic they are trying to learn (hopefully!).

I've worked with a variety of ages, from 4 to 80, so there's something for everyone! At the moment, I'm looking to teach anyone from GSCE level to those in their first years of university. My sessions typically last one hour, although I'm happy to adjust this depending on individual demand.
