About Clarise

Hi, I am Clarise. I grew up speaking Afrikaans and learned English later in life, so I understand personally what it takes to become fluent in a second language. My own journey taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of consistent effort. It also gave me a deep appreciation for the power of communication.

I am interested in teaching because I genuinely enjoy helping others grow in confidence and independence. There is something incredibly rewarding about watching someone realize they are capable of more than they thought. Language is more than grammar and vocabulary. It is connection, opportunity, and self-expression.

I value professionalism, reliability, and mutual respect. I believe in showing up prepared, being present, and giving each student my full attention. I am naturally patient, encouraging, and attentive to detail, and I care deeply about creating a positive and motivating learning experience.

Helping students become more confident in themselves and their abilities is what inspires me to teach.

Hello and welcome,

I am a dedicated online English tutor specialising in helping teenagers and adults develop confidence, fluency, and natural communication skills. My teaching style is structured, supportive, and professional, while still creating a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and taking risks in English.

As a native Afrikaans speaker, English was not my first language. Many years ago, I had to learn how to speak English fluently myself. Through that experience, I discovered that one of the most powerful ways to improve is through reading. Reading not only builds vocabulary, but also strengthens comprehension skills. Often, even if you do not know a specific word, you can understand its meaning through context and the author’s message. This approach shaped my teaching philosophy and allows me to guide students with real understanding and empathy.

In my lessons, I focus on:

• Conversational fluency and natural speaking
• Vocabulary development
• Reading comprehension skills
• Listening skills
• Pronunciation refinement
• Context-based grammar correction

Rather than relying on intense grammar drills, I incorporate grammar naturally within discussions and reading exercises. This ensures students understand how English works while using it practically and confidently.

Each lesson is carefully prepared and tailored to the student’s level, goals, and interests. Students can expect structured conversation, guided reading activities, vocabulary expansion, real-time corrective feedback, and consistent support. I maintain high standards of punctuality, professionalism, and preparation in every lesson.

My lessons are best suited for intermediate to advanced teenagers and adults who already have a basic foundation in English and are ready to refine their fluency, comprehension, and confidence.

I am committed to helping my students make steady, measurable progress in a way that feels empowering and encouraging. Learning English should open doors and create opportunities - and I take pride in helping students reach that level of confidence.
