About Maya
I'm a passionate and approachable tutor with two years' experience tutoring both privately and voluntarily through Tutor the Nation. I have supported students with additional learning needs, including dyslexia and dyscalculia, and understand the importance of adapting my approach to each individual. I particularly enjoy helping students build confidence alongside developing their subject knowledge.
I have recently completed my BEng (Hons) in Chemical Engineering and am due to start work as a SEN Teaching Assistant. I hold an Enhanced DBS Check and Level 2 Safeguarding in Education, and prioritise maintaining a safe, supportive and encouraging learning environment at all times.

I tailor my teaching to each student's needs and learning style, taking time to understand their current level and identify areas they find challenging. I prioritise creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes, whilst developing the confidence to work independently. I recognise that some students seeking extra support may find aspects of school challenging, and aim to create a positive and encouraging learning environment where they can make progress at a pace that works for them.
In a typical one-hour session, we’ll begin by reviewing relevant theory, before moving on to practice questions to apply what we've covered. I use questions throughout the lesson to check understanding, and will adjust the pace or revisit concepts where needed.
Lessons can be tailored to different goals, whether that is consolidating school work, building confidence in a particular topic, or developing exam technique. For students with additional learning needs, I'm happy to adapt the pace, explanations and activities to find an approach that best suits them. Where appropriate, I can also accommodate 30-minute sessions, which may be preferable for students who find longer periods of concentration challenging.
