About Helen

Hello! My name is Helen and I have completed my Bachelor in Music, majoring in Pedagogy (studio teaching) at The University of New South Wales in 2021. I have experience in playing piano for 16 years and earned performance and theory awards from the AMEB and in my previous high school, Burwood Girls High School.

I have been teaching piano for 4 years in various studios. I have taught students from Preliminary to Grade 8 between the ages of 5-18 years old. Majority of my students who have done AMEB exams earn B+ to A+. Some of my students have also performed at schools or in small groups with family to uplift their confidence and technicality. During this lockdown, all students have made considerable progress throughout their online learning.

About the lesson

I enjoy using a step-by-step method to approach each problem students find difficult to overcome, so that a greater sense of learning and achievement has been earned by the student. I do expect students to be able to practice on a keyboard in their own time when I am not tutoring them. I will also send out educational material for students to learn after the lesson as a reading task to help improve their skills and ask them to fill out short answer questions.

For exam students, they are expected to undertake mock exams prior to the actual exam. Reports are also written at the end of the year to allow parents to see their progress that has occurred throughout the year.

My current availabilities are limited to Saturday afternoons this year.
