About Eleanor

I am a Classics graduate at Exeter university who has been studying the Latin and Greek since GCSEs. I have three years tutoring Latin and Greek students from beginner to advanced at my university, and often explained complex syntax where they could not understand otherwise and consistently achieved first in the Latin and Ancient Greek modules.

About the lesson

My lessons are suited for beginner (adult and students), students looking for help in passing their exams, or adults looking to learn a new skill or guided reading in Latin. The series of lessons will be tailored to suite the individual after a lesson zero where such needs will be evaluated and a short taster session. But the basic structure of my lessons (for example for beginners) will involve starting at the very basic foundations blocks of grammar with verbs and nouns, consolidated with short minute tests at the beginning of each session and translation exercises from Latin to English and English to Latin to ensure the individual gets to grips fully with each element of the Latin language. We will work up to doing full passages at the individual's own pace whether that be fast or gradual. For more advanced levels, for there will still be regular grammar refreshers at the beginning of each class, but we will tackle lengthier passages more quickly and move quicker onto complex grammar and look more in depth at the meaning and context behind passages to develop critical thinking and to prepare for the literature exams and general interest. For those taking exams I will also teach exam technique and go through pass papers with them to hone their ability. Between each session I will issue a vocabulary list specific to the texts/exam board for the individual to memorise and do a short test at the beginning of each session as well as the grammar exercise/test. These short tests will not just be simple recall but designed to engage the individual's mind and aid long-term recall rather than just short-term.
