About Barbara

An accomplished Talent Coordinator, Director, credentialed Theater Arts teacher with an extensive background in the acting industry. An impressive career, including performances in Off-Broadway plays and directing equity musicals in New York City. At The Performer's Academy, I currently teach The Kids Dynamic Acting Class, Scene Study, Monologues, Commercials, conduct master classes for the SPiN competition, and serve as the director for the upcoming 2027 Actors' Forum since 2003. Recently taught at a charter school in OC, producing and directing Shakespearean plays and two musicals each year, inspiring young actors to embrace the stage. As a proud Casting Society of America member, I have lent my expertise to casting films in Los Angeles. Founder and director of the Millis Community Theater, where I have directed and produced various plays that resonate with local audiences. I would like to share my invaluable experience and passion for the arts with the next generation of performers.

About the lesson

Acting truthfully with Meisner. The fundamentals of acting. Being taught the elements of acting, stage terms, stage direction, taking direction, working on stage as a team. Learn Acting through fun exercises and drills, created by Sanford Meisner and Stanislavsky.

You’ll become an actor who acts from your own heart and learn how to be truthful every single time you act. You will strengthen all your skills and learn how to avoid the exact pitfalls that make actors seem “fake”. The students will learn how professional actors read their scripts and break them down, and learn how to use all your Meisner “tools” for every script from here on out. Learn Monologues and Commercial Acting as well.

An audition consists of about 4 minutes, no matter if it’s an audition to get agency representation or when you’re auditioning for a school play or musical. You have that amount of time to grab their attention and knock the material out of the park. The student needs to understand what to do on an audition, what to wear, where to focus, and what not to
do. Auditioning techniques are a great way to learn speaking skills, how to nail a job interview, or to present an oral book report.

Classes are for ages 6 to Adults. Virtual classes, so you can act in the comfort of your own space.
