About Rekha

I currently work as an Outreach Specialist, a role that has strengthened my communication, relationship-building, and people skills — qualities that translate naturally into teaching, especially with young children who thrive on patience, encouragement, and a friendly connection with their tutor.

Tamil is my mother tongue, and I've always felt a deep connection to the language, its literature, and its culture. Over the years, I've seen many children growing up outside Tamil Nadu struggle to stay connected with their roots simply because they don't get enough opportunity to practice the language at home. That's what motivated me to start teaching — I want to help these kids build genuine confidence in Tamil, not just memorize it for the sake of it.

I believe learning a language, especially for a child, should never feel like a burden. My approach is friendly and encouraging — I focus on building a comfortable relationship with each student first, so they feel free to make mistakes and learn without fear. I use stories, songs, simple games, and everyday conversation topics to keep classes light and enjoyable, while still making steady academic progress.

My work as an Outreach Specialist has also given me strong organizational and follow-up skills, which I bring into how I plan lessons, track each child's progress, and keep parents updated regularly.

About the lesson

Who this class is for:
This class is designed for children aged 6-11 (Grade 1 to Grade 5), especially kids growing up abroad who want to learn or improve their Tamil — whether they're complete beginners or already know a little and want to build confidence.

What we'll cover:

Beginners: Tamil alphabets (உயிர் எழுத்து, மெய் எழுத்து, உயிர்மெய் எழுத்து), basic word formation, simple reading practice
Intermediate learners: Sentence building, reading short stories, basic grammar, improving spoken fluency
All levels: Vocabulary building, conversational Tamil, listening & pronunciation practice, cultural context through simple stories and songs

How the class works:

Classes are conducted online via Zoom/Google Meet, 1-on-1 or small group depending on preference
Each session is 45-60 minutes, structured with a mix of teaching, practice, and interactive activities so kids stay engaged
I use visual aids, flashcards, simple worksheets, and storytelling to make learning fun rather than textbook-heavy
Regular small assessments (spoken + written) to track progress, shared with parents
Homework given is light and practical — just enough to reinforce what's learned, not overwhelming

Class frequency:
Flexible — once or twice a week recommended for steady progress. Timing can be adjusted based on your child's school schedule and time zone.
