About Rexene

I've been teaching English for 25 years. My students have been successful even if they struggled with English in the past.
I cannot count how many students I've taught who have increased their English portion of the ACT by 5-6 points. But also during my time teaching, I have learned numerous lessons about teaching and students; one of the most important lessons I have learned is the fact that students usually don't care what you know until they know how much you care.
My English knowledge is vast, and I love all portions of ELA, but my passion is you.

About the lesson

My teaching style is Project based. I believe that student interaction with learning is valuable. Before reading Edgar Allan Poe's story, 'The Cast of Amontillado", my 9th grade students researched the meaning of a coat of arms, which is discussed in the story. We read the short story and discussed as a group literary devices and meanings they found. We discussed the research they located about a coat of arms and its meanings. Then each student created his/her own coat of arms. We shared our coat of arms and explained the meanings of the symbols used.
I want my students to be free thinkers and learners; however, I also want my students to explain their thoughts in an educated manner.
