About Gordon
Born in England, have lived in Southern Africa for many years. I am mature and world-wise having had various careers in my lifetime including policeman, funeral services, retail protein manager, ran a learning and teaching centre for 17 years specializing in learning and study skills. This included lectures, workshops and one-on-one teaching in several African countries. Gained my TESL certificate and taught English in Russia to adults and teenagers for over a year. Returned to South Africa to conduct skills development training to over 200 students late 2020.

I prefer one-on-one teaching as each student is an individual. My skill in English is of great benefit when it comes to set English language books as many are designed for learners in England and not aimed at foreign learners. Much needs to be explained in simple terms using the students reality level. Using a dictionary is of prime importance to me when teaching as many words have multiple definitions. My aim is to have understanding of what is being learnt, not just repeating like a parrot.
