Hello! I'm Shiela, a dedicated ESL and Mathematics tutor who believes that every student can succeed with the right guidance, encouragement, and learning approach.
I am TESOL-certified and a licensed librarian with years of experience supporting students from diverse educational backgrounds. My experience has equipped me with strong teaching, communication, and organizational skills, allowing me to create engaging lessons that are tailored to each student's individual needs and learning style.
As an **ESL tutor**, I help students improve their speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, and conversational English. My lessons are interactive, practical, and designed to build confidence so students can communicate naturally in everyday situations, at school, at work, or while traveling.
As a **Mathematics tutor**, I help students develop a solid understanding of mathematical concepts through step-by-step explanations, guided practice, and real-life examples. I focus on building problem-solving skills and confidence, ensuring that students understand the "why" behind each concept rather than simply memorizing formulas.

My teaching approach is student-centered, engaging, and inquiry-based. I believe every learner has a unique learning style, so I adapt my teaching methods to match each student's needs, pace, and goals. I use guided discussions, hands-on activities, real-world examples, and digital learning tools to make lessons interactive and meaningful. I also encourage critical thinking, creativity, and independent learning rather than simply memorizing information.
A typical lesson begins with a brief review of previous concepts and a discussion of the learning objectives. I then introduce new material using clear explanations, visual aids, and interactive activities. Throughout the lesson, I check for understanding through questions, guided practice, and short exercises. We conclude by summarizing the key points, addressing any questions, and assigning practice activities or extension tasks to reinforce learning.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my background as a licensed librarian with extensive experience supporting students across different age groups and educational programs, including the International Baccalaureate (IB). I specialize in helping students develop research skills, information literacy, reading comprehension, critical thinking, and academic confidence. My experience in both education and customer service has also strengthened my communication, patience, and ability to build positive relationships with learners.
My lessons are suitable for primary, middle school, high school, and university students who need support with research skills, library and information literacy, English reading comprehension, study skills, academic writing, project-based learning, and assignment guidance. I also assist students preparing research projects, presentations, and IB assessments, tailoring each lesson to their individual academic goals and learning needs.
