About Eliane

Self-introduction:
Hi, my name is Thu Vu (T.V.). I am an graduated student at the University of Houston. I grew up in a monolingual household in Vietnam, a country where English is used commercially, and scholarly. Therefore I spent six years studying English as Foreign Language with the Grammar-Translation method. Then I studied ESL in the U.S. for four months in a classroom that employed the Communicative and task-based approaches. After five years of study in the U.S., I now speak English as a secondary language.

Experience:
Eigth months observing and semi-teaching grammar for level students.
One-on-one private session with an adult beginner since January 2023.
Competed for the TEFL certificate.
ESL teacher for a private institurion since 2022.

History:
I struggled in English during primary and secondary school. No matter how hard I tried, I could not comprehend tenses and rules. I remember the classroom was quiet, inactive, and dry. The teachers were strict and unresponsive. All of those discouraged me from learning the language.
When I got to experience the teaching approaches in the U.S. during my ESL semester, I caught up so well and eventually enjoy speaking the language. I imagine it would be a better subject in school if the students can understand the concept and have multiple opportunities to apply it and to make mistakes in class. Therefore, I decided to study as a linguist who focuses on education.
I want to show my students that with commitment and hard work, they are capable of anything and can be anything that they want to be. I hope to create a safe place for the children in my classroom, where teamwork and empathy are rewarded just as enthusiastically as a good test score. I am looking forward to creating an engaging and interactive learning environment

About the lesson

The lesson would cate for students individually using the progressivism approach- teaching relevant and interesting topics for the student. Student can choose what topics they are most interested in so they they are actively participating in the learning process. Lesson also uses a practical approach to tackling real-world problems.
Group work ( if the student want to study with their friends) is also provided. Group work promotes the experience-centered approach of progressive philosophy. Allowing students to collaborate helps them not only acquire crucial cooperation skills but also to participate in and construct projects that are meaningful and relevant to their everyday lives.
