I use interactive discussions. I usually start by asking the student to read an online article then proceed to comprehension questions. After this, I usually have a free discussion about the topic discussed in the article.
I try to learn the student's background first - interests, hobbies etc. and most especially the English level so I can specifically tailor my approach.
I have a lot of experience teaching university students, office workers and retirees.
