About Elmar

I currently have the privilege of pursuing an MSc Genetics degree, focused on molecular ecology, at the University of Pretoria, following completion of my BSc(Hons) Genetics degree in 2023. I have the better part of a decade's experience tutoring high school mathematics (both core and A-level) and physical sciences, spanning as far back as 2018.
As a science academic in the making, I am a deeply curious person who views learning as a two-way street, and I do not believe in a "standard" approach to teaching. Many years of teaching various subjects at all levels have shown me that learning is a personal experience that often requires unique attention and planning. My focus is on developing intuition, critical thinking, and importantly, confidence!

My teaching style focuses on constructive learning - presenting key pieces to the pupil and allowing them to discover how they fit together. With a strong emphasis on fundamentals and problem-solving strategy, I strive to help build an intuition that provides the pupil with the ability to contextualize questions and visualize answers.
I enjoy making use of colorful metaphors, visual aids and demonstrations, and just a touch of humor to make the content easy to understand, the connections between principles intuitive, and the lessons memorable.
