About Ivana

I have been teaching English for 34 years but for the past 25 years, I have been running my English Language Studio. I used to work with groups, but I generally prefer to work on a one-on-one basis. I have taught all levels, from Beginners to Advanced levels.

About the lesson

About me
I have a university degree in English and I am a certified TESOL teacher. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa. I love languages. English is my primary language in teaching, but I have also passed all the exams in Spanish at the Department of the World's Languages at the University of South Africa, Pretoria, was proclaimed the best student and awarded the Rosalia Castro Award. I am a great enthusiast for languages; besides English and Spanish, I have studied, to a lesser degree, German, French, Italian, Russian and Latin.
About me as a teacher
Teaching is my mission. I have been teaching for some 34 years and I still feel as enthusiastic as when I started. I cannot imagine myself doing anything else in life. I have worked in all sorts of teaching environments, with students of all ages, and I find them all inspirational in their own ways. The only thing that I have never done was to teach kids younger than 10. I am naturally a very patient person and I have great empathy in situations where people are out of their comfort zones. I have always had a great rapport with my students.
My lessons and my teaching style
Over the years I have taught so many different courses, for different purposes and at such different levels that I have developed a number of styles. I am a firm believer that there is no one particular style that one could use with different students, but that the teacher must adapt to the needs, wishes and learning abilities of each particular student. However, if I had to use one word that would encompass all these styles, it would be the word "interactive". It is the key requirement in any teaching situation and I always do my utmost to achieve the best possible interaction between my students and me.
