About Nancy
Hi there! Thanks for stopping by. I have a PhD in Education and over 25 years of teaching experience. I’ve worked with adult learners in classrooms and young children online. My focus is on helping students improve their reading, writing, and understanding of what they read. These are important skills for school, work, and everyday life. My lessons are friendly, clear, and easy to follow. I like to break big ideas into small steps, show you how it’s done, and then practice together. I use fun and age-appropriate materials, and I always make sure that what we do in class connects to your real life and background. Fun Fact About Me: I’ve been teaching English online for over 7 years. One activity I often use to help students practice transitional words is asking them to explain how something is done or made. One day, a student took it a step further. She brought her laptop into the kitchen and gave me live, step-by-step instructions on how to make dumplings. I loved it! Now, thanks to her, I’m the official dumpling chef in my family.

As a holder of a Doctor of Philosophy in Education, I bring both deep academic expertise and over 25 years of practical teaching experience to my tutoring. I specialize in foundational reading, writing, and comprehension. These skills are critical to lifelong learning and academic success. My teaching approach is student-centered and grounded in evidence-based literacy practices. I focus on building confidence and competence through: - Breaking down concepts into manageable steps and gradually increasing complexity. - Modeling skills and strategies before guiding students in practice. - Using engaging, age-appropriate materials and activities to keep students motivated. - Ensuring that the content and my teaching methods respect and reflect students’ backgrounds and cultures. Lessons typically run for 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the student’s age, learning goals, etc. For young children, shorter, more focused sessions are ideal. Older learners may benefit from more in-depth engagement. Qualifications and Experience: - PhD in Education, with a focus on literacy development. - Over 25 years of teaching experience, including: Classroom and online instruction for adult learners Online literacy tutoring for young children Curriculum development and teacher training My lessons are designed for: - Young children (ages 5–15) needing support in foundational reading, writing, and comprehension skills. - Adult learners seeking to strengthen their literacy skills for personal, or professional development. - Parents or caregivers who want guidance in supporting their children's literacy at home.
