About Lizelle

My name is Lizelle, I was born in 1996 and grew up in South Africa. I started my undergraduate studies in hairdressing in 2015 and graduated in 2017. After 2017 I decided to assist at creches for a year to get a feel for work as an educator. After my exposure to work with pre-school children I decided to pursue a career in education. I started my undergraduate studies at University of the Western Cape entering the B.Ed. (Foundation Training) course as a first-year student in 2019. I completed my B.Ed. degree in 2022 and graduated in 2023. I taught a multigrade (Gr. 1 & 2) class in 2023 in a small farm school . I love nature, animals and an active lifestyle. I am a logical thinker, compassionate, determent, enthusiastic teacher who is learner focused striving to support learners to reach their full potential.

About the lesson

My personal experience living with a learning disability alerted me to the fact that one needs to have compassion for yourself and work hard to succeed in life. It taught me how important it is to ask for help if needed. It also taught me the value of family and friendships. It taught me that everybody no matter what their strengths and weaknesses are have a place in society and a duty to fulfill. It taught me that we all have the right to love, laugh, be sad, angry and anxious but have to take responsibility for it. It also taught me to have compassion for all learners, especially those living with identified barriers. I truly belief that this is why I chose teaching. I hope that by being present, understanding, compassionate, patient, warm and engaging in the classroom, I can motivate learners to belief that they are worthy no matter what their challenges are. I am looking forward to teaching and practicing creative and inclusive strategies such as interactive learning, that best suit the needs of every learner in my classroom. To summarize, my philosophy as a foundation phase teacher is to be fully present in a safe and welcoming environment, to partake in the learning of every learner in my class through interactive and participatory learning strategies. I believe in inclusive education that makes provision for a differentiated curriculum to enable me to also assist learners with specified barriers in the classroom. My main goal as a teacher is to aid in my learners to maximize their growth on all levels. I would like to see learners develop individually but also how they use one another to learn and grow. I want to challenge learners and assist them to reach their maximum potential. I want my learners to have freedom to be creative, to express their viewpoints and to be themselves as far as possible. With this freedom learners will be able to experiment with likes and dislikes and be able to figure out their respective weaknesses and strengths and learn to become independent and responsible learners that would contribute to our society one day.
