About Alan

I’m a law school graduate that finished in the top 5% of my class with a deep passion for helping others conquer the LSAT, the test I credit with my success in the admissions process.

Unlike some top LSAT scorers, I did not start with an innate ability and scores that made me optimistic.

Like many others, I struggled to grasp LSAT concepts. However, I worked to slowly build my understanding of the exam, eventually increasing my score by nearly 30 points and scoring in the 99.9+ percentile.

Knowing that this test can be learned and conquered, I began tutoring aspiring law students because I knew from first-hand experience that your dream LSAT score is achievable with the proper guidance. Since then, I have dedicated over 1,500 hours to helping students achieve their dream scores. Every one of my students has seen massive improvements and reached (if not surpassed) their goals.

My approach is personalized and results-driven: I craft tailored study plans, use proven strategies like the blind review method, and provide former LSAT exams to identify your strengths and target areas for growth. Together, we’ll unlock your full potential and get you the score you need to succeed!

If you want to achieve your dream LSAT score, you're in the right place.

After teaching LSAT Prep for Princeton Review, Kaplan, and Manhattan Prep, I decided to shift to private tutoring to provide a more personalized experience for my students.

Don't pay extra for expensive books and study materials when I provide everything you will need to fully prepare for the LSAT, free of charge!

All study materials and everything else that you may need to nail the LSAT will be included at no extra cost! I believe that LSAT Prep of the highest quality should be accessible to everyone and I truly strive to keep my rate as low as possible and ensure students need not incur any further costs in their LSAT journey. In addition to the standard prep materials, I also ensure I provide students with all the supplementary materials they could ask for, including (but not even close to limited to):
- Drills to prepare for the toughest components of the LSAT
- Analytical data of your improvement over time
- Personalized study plan based on your learning style and schedule

We’ll develop your skills during the lessons, and then you’ll apply them during practice tests which we will then review in-depth using the blind review method (proven to be the most effective study method for the exam).

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed my passion for the LSAT and legal reasoning during law school, where I first scored at the top of my class first semester and realized how transformative strong analytical skills are for law careers. I began tutoring LSAT full-time years ago because I loved seeing students' 'aha' moments and score jumps (often 10-20+ points). After a break to gain real-world public defender experience, I'm back full-time in 2026 — now with even deeper insight into how these exact skills apply in court. Private tutoring lets me customize every session to a student's strengths, unlike large classes, and nothing beats the satisfaction of helping someone get into their dream law school
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach the current 2026 LSAT format: double Logical Reasoning (now the core of the test), Reading Comprehension, and the separate Argumentative Writing sample. My favorite topics are Logical Reasoning flaw identification, assumption hunting, and conditional reasoning — these are incredibly fun to break down like a legal cross-examination, and students light up when they master them. I also love RC structure mapping and persuasive writing strategies that mirror real advocacy. The only part I like less is when students feel overwhelmed by timed pressure early on, but we turn that into a strength through progressive drills and mindset shifts. Everything ties back to law school and career success.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

My biggest role models were my own LSAT instructor during prep (who made complex arguments feel intuitive) and the dedicated professors in law school who emphasized clear reasoning over rote memorization. Their patient, example-driven style showed me how one great teacher can change a trajectory. As a future public defender, I'm also inspired by mentors who use sharp logic to fight for justice daily — that's the energy I bring to every tutoring session.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A great tutor needs deep subject mastery, infinite patience, adaptability (every student learns differently), and genuine enthusiasm. You must listen actively, celebrate small wins, provide clear explanations with real examples, and hold students accountable without being rigid. Organization, timely feedback, and the ability to relate material to their goals (like law school dreams) are essential. Most importantly, empathy — understanding test anxiety and life pressures — builds trust and results.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

Early in my teaching career, I worked with a student who had plateaued at 152 despite months of self-study. We focused on LR flaw patterns for three weeks using real 2026-style questions. She went from missing 12+ per section to 3-4. On test day she scored 168 and got into her top-choice school with scholarship. She later told me the confidence carried into her interviews. That moment reinforced why I tutor: it's not just scores — it's life-changing self-belief.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

The biggest challenge historically was balancing speed and accuracy under time pressure, especially in Logic Games (which I taught extensively). The 2024+ shift to double LR removed that but amplified the need for flawless argument analysis — a challenge I overcame by creating targeted drill systems. Today, I help students with the new in-center testing anxiety and UI navigation. Personally, staying current with every LSAC update keeps me sharp; I turn those challenges into teaching strengths.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My core passion is teaching — specifically empowering future lawyers with razor-sharp reasoning that serves both test success and real justice work. Within LSAT, I love the logical puzzle-solving aspect because it mirrors courtroom advocacy. Outside tutoring, I'm passionate about public defense and access to education, which is why I offer flexible rates and free resources. Teaching lets me combine all of it: helping students achieve dreams while staying connected to the legal world I'll re-enter.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

What makes me a Superprof is my proven track record (55+ hours taught, 8 glowing reviews, Super Tutor badge), relentless commitment to results, and authentic approach rooted in real legal experience. I respond instantly, customize every plan, celebrate progress, and treat students like future colleagues. Whether virtual webcam or Pittsburgh in-person, I deliver flexible, high-impact sessions that consistently boost scores and confidence. I'm fully dedicated right now — available daily — and genuinely love guiding each student to their best LSAT self. I'm here to make law school dreams reality, one reasoned argument at a time.
