About Ada

Hi, students! I'm a First Year social sciences student at the University of Toronto with a passion for all things linguistic, English, French, and Turkish! I've won multiple school awards in these subject areas, and was a peer mentor at my high school for a bit.

As the oldest of three, I understand how confusing and frustrating elementary and high school can be, which is why I want to put my knowledge and skills to good use and lend you a little support.

If you're willing to learn, you're already an amazing student :)

About the lesson

My tutoring depends on each student's needs, weaknesses, strengths, personalities, and learning style. I firmly believe practice makes perfect, and there's no such thing as a stupid question.

Typical lesson plan:
I start off with a free diagnostic session, where I use the VARK model to determine the student's learning styles. I also open up a discussion with you and your parent(s) to see which areas you need support, whether it's a specific assignment (like a tough essay) or a skillset (like presentations or reading comprehension). Based on our discussion, I like to have you do a quick diagnostic quiz that helps give both of us a better idea of what to focus on.

Together, we'll set goals for each session, but if you have any concerns about a new assignment or concept from that day, I'm happy to take a break from our focus and go over it with you. As someone who has trouble with lecture-style teaching, I prefer active student participation in the form of games, activities, technological aides (PearDeck, Slides), quizzes, debates, conversations, and student-led inquiries—basically, I act as a resource or guide to answer questions, review your progress, demonstrate information-gathering, etc.

What sets me apart is I check in every few minutes and I love the challenge of re-explaining a concept in a completely different way, if it still doesn't "click" with the student. For example, I might need to word it differently; use aides like Venn diagrams, lists, or drawings (for visual learners); do a Q&A session for auditory learners; a hands-on approach; etc.

Who my lessons are for:
Elementary & secondary school students wanting support in linguistics, from writing, doing a difficult project, trouble presenting, and developing literacy.
Students who are still learning English or French (ESL or FSL), as the daughter of Turkish immigrants I really believe in your potential to gain intermediate fluency in no time—from grammar, to conjugation, to practice conversation, I'm here to help.
