About Vera

I’m a Classics and Spanish teacher at a GDST school in London, where I teach KS3 Latin and run an after-school GCSE Classical Civilisation programme with local state schools. I studied Classics at UCL (First Class Honours, Otto Skutsch Prize), so I know the language and the literature well, and I love sharing both. Latin has a reputation for being tough, and I’d like to change that.

In 2020 I graduated with First Class Honours in Classics and French from UCL, with the Otto Skutsch Prize and a place on the 2020 Dean’s List. In 2025 I completed an MA in Creative Music Production at ICMP, with Distinction and the Outstanding Student Award, and I now support MA students there as a Learning Assistant and guest lecturer.

I have over ten years of tutoring experience, and I love sharing my passion Latin: the grammar, the texts and the world behind them. Latin has a reputation for being tough, and I’d like to change that.

About the lesson

Latin is a fascinating language, and closer to us than you may think. By making connections to what you already know (English words that come from Latin, for example), grammar and vocabulary start to make sense. Through engaging and gamified activities and drills, we will build solid foundations to then read real texts and discover the world behind them.

I like to use a combination of techniques and resources adapted to each student's needs and preferences, including digital resources like interactive quizzes and online vocabulary tools to keep it fun and adapted to you. For GCSE I work from the OCR specification, and for A level and older students I focus on translation accuracy and literary analysis. I adapt to each student, including those with SEN.

My lessons are £55 an hour online and £70 an hour in person. That covers more than the hour we spend together. Before the lessons, I put time into planning material around you, your goals and your course, so every lesson feels made for you. I also keep up with my subjects and any exam board changes, and I’m happy to look over your work before we meet, so we can use our time on the things that will help most. The in-person rate includes my travel and cost to you. Why not book a free intro call and say hello?
