About George
Though I am new to tutelage, I have significant experience in coaching and mentoring young and adolescent children in both academic and sporting capacities.
I acted as a mentor as part of the Place2Be scheme in Edinburgh and I have successfully coached both local St Andrews school children in sport and a team of my peers at rugby.
I was also Vice-Captain and Head of House at Merchiston Castle School, where I worked to maintain students' wellbeing as well as their schoolwork.

Hi there! My name is George and I am a recent graduate from University of St Andrews.
First of all, what are my academic credentials? I have a 2:1 MA in English Literature as well as 3 A-grade A Levels in English, History and Latin and 11 A*s at GCSE level giving me an excellent understanding of English and the study of literature as well as a good grounding in a variety of academic areas. I wrote my Honours dissertation on modern Scottish Literature, for which I received first class accreditation.
Secondly, how do I teach? From personal experience, learning arts subjects like English is best done actively. For me, being lectured at is counterproductive, and I'd rather have a directed and purposeful discussion with my tutee in which the exchange encourages them to form their own conclusions surrounding a particular topic or theme. My lessons would focus on a handful of topics, looking to highlight key themes or issues and to inspire discussion and debate, prompting as appropriate.
Finally, a little about myself. I'm an avid lover of sports, primarily rugby, cricket and football, and I'm rarely happier than when I'm having a kick about with friends. I'm also a big fan of TV shows like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and Downton Abbey as well as a keen listener of hip-hop music. I also write a blog on rugby.
