About Alistair

As a University of Bath chemistry student, I use my passion for the subject to enable GCSE and A level students to get the results they need. In sixth form, I served as a tutor for my younger peers and won the final year chemistry prize. I am also a Level 2 fencing coach and can draw on this experience to develop rapport with students and inspire them. My key strengths are in explaining complex concepts in language that students can readily understand and showing the connection between abstract models and the real world around them. I achieved three As at A level and A* in my EPQ.

About the lesson

I provide a complimentary initial assessment of student's strengths, areas of improvement, goals and concerns and then provide a tailored plan for our work together.

I offer lessons of 1-2 hours, addressing the topic of concern. I will review the topic, supervise practice questions, discuss them in detail and assign a further worksheet. The next lesson, I will review and grade the worksheet, and discuss any other issues or misunderstandings before moving on to the next topic. I end each lesson with a spot quiz to assess comprehension and retention.

If a student requires help with exam preparation, I can provide practice exams for them to complete for me to grade and discuss in depth.

I can assist with both subject matter and exam technique.

Students will leave lessons with greater clarity in their chemistry and problem solving skills and confidence in their ability to achieve their goals. I also aim to inspire them with my passion for the subject.
