About Maria
I am half English half Russian, having grown up speaking both at home. I then moved to France when I was 5 and completed my primary schooling there in a fully French-speaking school, where I excelled and was top of my class for 8 years consecutively - demonstrating my knack for languages and general academic excellence. This streak was continued upon moving back to the UK where I got an academic scholarship for a top UK private school (Alleyn's) where I received a grade 9 (A**) in 13 GCSEs (exams we do at 16), and received AAAA* in my A-levels (exams we do at 18). I studied Spanish all throughout school and progressed to a very high level too, so would be able to teach and understand it. I then went to a top Russell Group University (St Andrews) and completed my BSc in Environmental Sciences with honors.
I am confident teaching English to non-native speakers, but for native speakers, I am confident teaching up to 16-year-olds, as beyond that age, I did not do any further exams myself. I got grade 9 in both my English literature and language exam, and hope to translate my methodical and grade-winning strategies to my pupils.
I have an open driver’s license, have my own car, and have a Blue Card working with children check, and have first aid courses and experience.

I offer in-person lessons on the Gold Coast, or virtual video call lessons. Lessons can be 1 to 2 hours in length, the first one being a free 30-minute consultation to determine the level of pre-existing language skills of my pupil, so I can formulate a plan for the period of learning we have in mind, or working towards specific goals or tests. I can help with preparation for AQF Certificates and Senior Secondary Certificate of Education. I work with any age group! My availability is very flexible and I can mold seamlessly into your schedule.
