About Clément
I am a physics lecturer at the University of York, teaching students from first-year undergraduates to first-year PhD candidates. I have a PhD in Space Physics from the prestigious École Polytechnique, in France; and I hold the highest education degree attainable in France: the Agrégation. As an undergraduate student, I luckily stumbled on quite a few good habits that carried me through my studies fairly successfully. I tutored in physics for over 10 years, and during my PhD, I sought out the best ways of learning physics, of thinking about physics, of solving physics problems. Back in France, I wrote a book about studying physics, which quickly became a bestseller. After my PhD, I became a father, moved country, and took on a difficult academic job. Life got pretty stressful. All of this meant I had to face increasing demands on my organisational, intellectual and psychological skills. To deal with all of this, I have systematically studied how to organise my time, my energy, and my thinking in order to turn myself into a more capable human. Now, as the supervisor of two dozen students at the University of York, I regularly engage in one-on-one conversations with students with the goal of helping them thrive. In these conversations, I draw from my knowledge of physics, the science of learning, and the experiments I have tried in my own life from the personal development literature. All of it helps, and, as I systematise my approach to these questions, I am looking to extend my reach through tutoring physics students - an old passion of mine that I put on pause for years as I was extending my own skills.

I believe that if you are seeking a physics tutor, it is not because you need yet another physics teacher. Teaching physics to University students is what I do for a living, but I do not believe that this is the role of a tutor. Instead, I believe that my role, as a tutor, is not only to help you learn physics content but to help you to get better at learning physics without additional help. To do so, I will teach you the meta-skills you need to study physics successfully and pleasurably: What are the best methods to make sure you understand physics? What are the best methods to remember things? How can you build the discipline you need to thrive in your physics studies and as a young adult? My goal is to become unnecessary to you. I will teach you, over a dozen weeks or so, to build your own system to thrive at University. Then, you will not need me anymore, nor any physics tutor.

I am writing to wholeheartedly recommend Clement as an outstanding physics teacher. I had the privilege of being his student during my time at Stanislas (top 3 high school in France), and the experience was nothing short of transformative.
Clément is not only exceptionally knowledgeable in the field of physics but also possesses a unique ability to tailor his teaching methodology to the individual needs of students.
Under Clément's guidance, my understanding of physics deepened significantly, and I experienced substantial academic growth. He goes beyond the conventional teaching methods, adopting an approach that caters specifically to the learning styles and needs of each student. This personalized touch played a crucial role in my progress, making the subject more accessible and engaging.
Moreover, Clément fosters a positive and supportive learning environment. He encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and a genuine passion for physics. His commitment to the success of his students is evident through the extra time and effort he invests in ensuring that everyone grasps the subject matter.Clément has been my colleague for over ten years. The precision of his teaching methods and his enthusiasm about teaching have always been very inspiring to me. He also has written a book about leaning physics, which contains very advanced thinking about pedagogy. I fully recommend him as a a tutor !
I have known Clément for the past four years, and he stands out as one of the most influential educators throughout my academic journey in France. His teaching style is characterized by precision, efficiency, warmth, and a profound human touch, complemented by an impressive ability to convey his extensive knowledge. Clément's pedagogical approach draws inspiration from figures such as R. Feynman and C. Sagan. It places a strong emphasis on cultivating a nuanced understanding of complex issues before delving into formalized structures.
What sets Clément apart is not just his expertise but his dedication to instilling a sense of purpose in his students. He goes beyond the conventional methods of teaching, encouraging a thoughtful exploration of why we are pursuing a particular field of study and what significance our efforts hold. I've found his book "Étudier la physique" (How to study physics, a French-written book) to be a valuable resource, often sharing it with friends who may be experiencing a dip in momentum or motivation, as a reminder of the intrinsic value of their academic pursuits.
Clément's pedagogical strength lies in his ability to provide clarity on the purpose behind our academic endeavors, systematically constructing formalisms and methods that lead to tangible and meaningful results. I wholeheartedly recommend seeking his guidance for those aspiring to delve into scientific disciplines at an advanced level. From working with Clement, taking smaller steps gradually has a big overall impact. Aiming for lots of smaller, attainable goals such as reading every night and creating a checklist for the day helps you be in the mindset of creating a routine for success. Following this, my average year grade increased by 10 points - Ollie (University of York Graduate)
Until recently I was the Deputy Head of the School of Physics, Engineering and Technology at the University of York, and had responsibility for all aspects of teaching including maintenance of academic quality and standards. I was also Dr Clement's line manager and currently we share teaching across a second year undergraduate astrophysics module. Based on my very extensive interaction with Dr Moissard I'm certain that he has all the required attributes to tutor students from university level to GSCE level. He is totally professional, meticulous in his preparation, hugely diligent and capable, and very passionate about physics, astrophysics and mathematics. Clement embraces innovative teaching styles and carefully tunes his teaching to suit the needs of his students. He has a talent for relating abstract concepts to everyday life which demonstrate their practical benefits. He is endlessly patient and devoted to helping students improve. I have no hesitation in recommending him without reservation.
