About Ellie
I have always had a genuine love for English Literature, and it is one of the main reasons I have chosen to study English Literature at the University of Manchester. I particularly enjoy exploring the different ways writers use language, structure and form to communicate complex ideas, and I love helping other people discover that literature can be much more interesting and accessible than it can sometimes seem in the classroom.
During sixth form, I actively pursued my interest in English beyond the classroom through literature, writing and journalism. I was involved in my college's literary journalism and was recognised with awards for my work in English Literature and journalism. These experiences helped me develop a strong ability to communicate ideas clearly, think critically and approach texts from different perspectives.
Having recently completed my own A-levels, I understand first-hand how challenging English exams can be. I know that sometimes the hardest part isn't understanding a text, but knowing how to express an interpretation clearly, structure an essay effectively and turn your ideas into the kind of analysis that earns marks. I want to make that process much less intimidating for my students.
I am particularly passionate about helping students develop their own voice as writers and thinkers, rather than simply teaching them model answers to memorise. I believe that the strongest English students are those who can form their own interpretations and then support them confidently with precise evidence and thoughtful analysis.
As someone who is continuing to study English Literature at university, I am enthusiastic about the subject and genuinely enjoy sharing that enthusiasm with others. I aim to create lessons that are encouraging, relaxed and intellectually stimulating, while still being focused on making measurable progress.
Whether a student is struggling with confidence, wants to improve their essay writing, or is aiming for the highest grades possible, I want them to finish each lesson feeling more capable and more confident than when they started.

I offer friendly, personalised English Literature and English Language tutoring for GCSE students, with lessons tailored to each student's individual needs, ability and exam board.
My approach is focused on helping students understand their texts, and learn how to turn their ideas into clear, well-developed answers that gain marks. I particularly focus on essay structure, textual analysis, using quotations effectively, developing interpretations and understanding what examiners are looking for.
Rather than following the exact same lesson structure with every student, I adapt sessions depending on what they are struggling with. We might work through a difficult text or theme, practise analysing a quotation, plan an essay together, improve a previous piece of work, or complete exam-style questions under timed conditions. I also encourage students to explain their own ideas and interpretations, as I believe this is one of the best ways to develop confidence and independent thinking.
For students who are preparing for exams, I can also help with revision strategies, prioritising what to learn, essay planning and developing effective exam technique.
Lessons are typically one hour, although I can be flexible depending on the student's age and individual requirements. Lessons can take place online, making it easy to fit tutoring around school and other commitments.
I recently completed my A-levels, receiving an A* in English Literature, and will be studying English Literature at the University of Manchester. Because I have recently experienced the GCSE and A-level examination system myself, I understand the challenges students face and the importance of learning how to approach exams strategically as well as understanding the subject.
My lessons are primarily aimed at GCSE students aged approximately 14–16, covering both English Literature and English Language. I am particularly happy to work with students who lack confidence in English, want to improve their essay writing, or are aiming to move up a grade.
Most importantly, I want lessons to feel supportive and encouraging rather than intimidating. My aim is for students to leave each session feeling that they understand something better than they did before, and increasingly confident in their own ability to succeed.
