About Adam

Hi everyone, my name is Adam Bailey. I am currently doing a Maths degree at Durham University.
I have loved Maths ever since I can remember. I find the numerical logic and challenge of the subject really stimulating.
I also really enjoy helping others do well. I coach squash regularly so I’ve had lots of experience with young people and find it easy to get along with them. This, along with my love for the subject, makes tutoring Maths a joy. I ran Maths tutoring group sessions in years 12 and 13 and helped lots of students who struggled in certain areas of Maths.
I have learnt so many tips and tricks throughout my Maths career that are not taught by teachers. I’d love to share these with anyone studying the subject.
My aim is to nurture understanding and mathematical thinking within the student. I’ve found that doing well at Maths does not just require memorising formulae and methods but also understanding them. This makes it easier to apply these formulae and methods to nail the trickier questions. This is something I really want to focus on with all my students as it was essential to helping me get the top grades at A level.
I also have many easy to challenging questions to test the student’s knowledge and enable them to thrive in the heat of difficult exams.
I look forward to helping students make a big improvement in the run-up to their exams.

About the lesson

My sessions consist of going through a particular topic in the student’s course, making sure that they understand the methods used and their purpose. We then go through practice questions and past paper questions on that topic, covering difficult questions if they have picked it up well.
I tune into the student’s learning style and structure the lessons around this. There’s often more than one way of thinking through problems!
I frequently check and test the student’s understanding. When they are confident in a topic I like to get them to work through questions themselves and explain their thought processes to me.
