About Harmke
I am a masters student who has been tutoring secondary school, university and higher vocational students for three years. With secondary school students, I mainly focus on reading skills, while university and higher vocational education students more often focus on writing skills. By actively practicing English during classes and choosing reading material or discussing assignments for writing together, English becomes a lot more fun than just in a classroom.

I have different approaches for reading and writing. When reading we choose a text together, which we both read. Reading becomes much more fun when the text is actually interesting. With the text we do exercises such "which word should be here", "what is a synonym of this word" and "what exactly is meant by this sentence". By choosing the text themselves, the student keeps up better and reading becomes less difficult. Writing is a matter of doing. We start by looking at previously written texts so that we know what to focus on. Then we will deal with grammatical structure, signal words and common mistakes. Topics range from a description of your home to an academic paper on a cure for chronic diseases.
