As an energetic student pursuing a path towards a career in education, I want to help you succeed in your English learning goals. Whether you want to learn how to speak and understand more fluently, read faster, write better papers or simply gain confidence with the English language, then I am happy to help you get there. Working with students at a pace they are comfortable with, I will draw on over a decade of University-level experience to provide you with the high-quality instruction you need to excel in academic and social settings alike. My approach to tutoring is simple: make learning a positive experience by balancing important content with its relevance to each student, taking special care to design lessons around their specific needs as learners. Typically, each of my sessions can be broken down into three parts, although I am capable of reducing the time spent on one section if the student finds another more valuable to their learning. My typical lesson plan is as follows:
- Goal-Setting: Where (in our first session together) I will work with the student to set a few goals for themselves and their learning over the course of our sessions. After two to three sessions, we will return to these goals and evaluate which elements of our lesson plan may need to shift in order for the learner to more effectively reach them. My flexibility as a tutor is a necessary tool I employ to help my students reach their full potential as learners!
- Homework Assistance: Where I will work with the student to overcome any difficulties they may be having in understanding/completing a specific school assignment. Once the student has completed their work, or is confident that they can continue to work through the rest of the assignment after our session concludes, we will move on to the next phase of the lesson plan.
- Pronunciation/Vocabulary-building exercises: Where I will assist the student in mastering new words and phrases in English to quickly build up their vocabulary. This part of the session will not only tackle the meaning of words and phrases, but will also focus on breaking each word down into elements to ensure smoother acquisition of pronunciation. When students can get a better "feel" for these smaller sounds, both reading and speaking skills improve simultaneously.
- Conversation Practice : Where I will introduce various topics of conversation geared towards the interests of the student. Studies have shown that the most efficient way to gain confidence speaking in English is to dive right into speaking! Conversational techniques will be provided during this section to empower ESL students in communicating throughout social situations of varying degrees of complexity.
I am training to become a teacher of Theatre and English Literature at the High School level, but my sessions are for any learner who wants to improve the way they speak, write, and read in English.
