About Cuyler

I'm an autodidact, for the most part. I teach myself things as a hobby. When I was going through grade school, I was disgusted with the teaching methods (and lack of understanding) of the teachers. Naturally, I wanted to do better. I've spent a lot of time thinking about relevant areas of philosophy: logic, pragmatics, and pedagogy. Most of my ability as an educator comes from my experience in teaching myself. I know what works and what doesn't, and I enjoy nothing more than to share what I've learned.

About the lesson

My methodology follows the following algorithm:
1. Scan your skill, knowledge, and understanding to find out where to start.
2. Select the first concept or process we're going to work on.
3. Make sure you understand all the concepts and processes that are prerequisites for the one we're working on.
4. Once we find the most fundamental concept that you need to know, I give you a conceptual and practical overview of it.
5. You practice it.
6. You tell me any difficulties you had, I help you with them, and then we see if you've got the topic sorted out.
7. Once you can handle that topic, we move on to the next one.

I often talk about mental practices and problem-solving/practicing techniques, where another tutor might be more focused on the particular topic you're trying to learn. That's because my goal is for you to no longer need a tutor. I want to make myself redundant as quickly as possible and to do that the focus needs to be on you and your learning techniques. If you learn how to learn, the rest will follow.
