About Tamryn

I am a graduate from the University of the Witwatersrand, a very prestigious and well renowned, institute in South Africa. I have obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Cell Biology with majors in Biochemistry and Cell Biology as well as Genetics and Developmental Biology. I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education specialising in Life Sciences and Natural Sciences, of which I graduated with distinction. I have a certificate in Cosmetic Sciences with focus surrounding the formulation of cosmetic products, fragrances and toiletries.

I resonate with the quote from Nelson Mandela: "Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world." My teaching philosophy is underpinned by creativity, integrity, individuality and passion. I thrive on finding creative and engaging ways to share the joys of learning with my students. I believe every child is unique with different experiences, learning styles and academic needs. I believe that I can encourage active, meaningful and systematic learning by coupling my strong scientific background and diverse teaching strategies with innovative technology.

About the lesson

Teaching is a field that I am extremely passionate about. My lessons are scaffolded to promote active and systematic learning through personal student engagement, individualised attention, games and a passionate attitude. My language of instruction is in English and my lessons are aimed at the level of high school students. A typical lesson includes effective questioning to engage prior knowledge, explanations with visual aids as well as worksheets and mini quizzes to reinforce concepts learnt, assess understanding and elimination of misconceptions and content knowledge gaps.
