About Mari
Hello! My name is Mari. I will be graduating this June with an Honors Bachelor of Science and a Certificate in Biological Research Excellence. This September, I will be starting my PhD at the University of Toronto in the Department of Cell and Systems Biology. As a tutor, I am passionate about helping students build a strong foundation in science through clear explanations, personalized guidance, and a supportive, encouraging environment. My academic background and research experience allow me to teach course material with depth while also helping students develop critical thinking and confidence in their abilities. I understand that every student learns differently, and I am committed to adapting my teaching style to meet individual needs. My Approach as a Tutor
My name is Mari, and as a tutor, my goal is to make learning both effective and empowering. I focus on creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building real understanding.
Teaching Methodology and Techniques:
I tailor my teaching methods to each student’s learning style—whether they prefer visual aids, step-by-step breakdowns, real-world examples, or active problem-solving. I prioritize clarity, patience, and interactive engagement to help students grasp even complex topics. I also emphasize critical thinking, so students can not only memorize material but truly understand it.
Typical Lesson Plan:
Each lesson begins with a quick review of the previous session to reinforce understanding. I then introduce new material in a structured, manageable way, breaking down concepts into simple steps. Lessons often involve a mixture of mini-lectures, guided practice, and real-time feedback. We end with a recap, identifying key takeaways and setting goals for independent practice before the next session.

I believe what sets me apart is my ability to explain difficult ideas in a way that feels approachable and logical, while also boosting students' confidence in their abilities.
