About Phu
Hi! My name is Phu, and I’m a Bachelor of Science graduate from the University of Melbourne with an 85+ WAM and a raw 40+ study score in VCE Maths Methods. I’ve completed 1000+ hours of maths tutoring, have a valid Working With Children's Check, and I have been helping students from Year 7 through to Year 12 improve both their results and confidence in maths for many years.
My biggest focus isn’t just improving marks — it’s helping students understand maths properly so they stop feeling overwhelmed and start approaching problems with clarity and confidence. Maths builds quickly, and once gaps form, everything feels harder. My role is to identify those gaps early and fix them properly.
What makes my tutoring different?
I don’t just go through questions — I help students develop the thinking process behind maths. Sessions are structured, targeted, and adapted to the student’s school and learning style.
My approach includes:
- Strong Foundations: Core skills, problem-solving, and mathematical confidence
- Step-by-Step Explanations: Clear logic so students understand why methods work, not just doing them for the sake of it
- Exam Strategy: How to avoid common mistakes and maximize marks efficiently

- 24/7 Support and Feedback: Students can contact me outside of tutoring hours, and will receive support in a timely manner

● Years 7–10 Maths: $50/hour (online), $60/hour (in person)
● Years 11–12 Maths Methods: $60/hour (online), $70/hour (in person)

I use a step-by-step teaching method that emphasizes logical thinking and clarity. Key techniques include:

- Guided practice with increasing difficulty
- Active questioning to check understanding
- Reinforcing key ideas through targeted exam-style questions
- Teaching students how to approach unfamiliar problems methodically
- Practice on CAS calculator efficiency for tests and exams
Most lessons run for 60 minutes, which allows enough time to:
- Review previous content or homework
- Learn or consolidate new concepts
- Practice questions with guided feedback
