About Sheilagh
Hello. I'm an experienced science teacher who has worked in education for 28 years. I teach chemistry, biology and science GCSEs, and I'm a verified member of The Tutors Association.
My notable reputation stems from my ability to assist and empower students with diverse learning needs. I'm particularly well known for working with students who need that little bit of extra support; I have a patient and empathetic approach - I understand that not everyone finds science easy. That said, I have also taught top sets, inspiring high-achieving students to reach their fullest potential. I am passionate about nurturing their drive and providing the motivation they need to soar.
With a specialism in SEN within mainstream education, mostly particularly with ADHD and ASD, I have tutored one-to-one for many years as part of my teaching role.
I've taught the AQA and Edexcel IGCSE exam boards for both chemistry and biology. Being a current teacher means I'm up-to-date with the syllabus requirements.
I hold an up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificate, and additional certificates in Safeguarding for Tutors, Safeguarding and Duty of Care training, including the SEND Code of Practice (11-18 years). Further, I have additional certification in GDPR, Online Safety, Risk Assessment and Fire Safety. I am also a qualified first aider.

I only work one-to-one with students - so the student is guaranteed my full and undivided attention for the duration of the lesson.
I engage the student in verbal repetition, and call and response techniques. I have a raft of original and scaffolded learning materials, teaching and pre-teaching in clear, logical steps, with full student involvement - not just explaining.
I use Zoom Pro for my online lessons, using its whiteboard features for collaborative work, and that work is saved to a shared OneNote Notebook for access at any time of day by the student - building a body of materials together.
