About Russ

I am a highly experienced private tutor specialising in English, Philosophy, Geography, Drama and the humanities subjects. I can, however, teach all subjects to up to at least common entrance level. I ensure a thoroughly personal response to each of my students, focusing on nurturing confidence, structure and adopting an approach sensitive to the requirements of the individual. I believe that the child feeling understood by their tutor is the foundation to understanding the subject being studied
I have worked with children with dyslexia, ADD and other issues on the spectrum of learning difficulty and am not fazed easily.
My experience has shown me that a good tutor/student relationship can foster a trust in which the latent talents of all young people can be identified and optimized. I pride myself on making sure my approach is always about the individual first and foremost and that the sessions are enjoyable.
I have worked all over the world for a variety of clients in China, Australia, USA. I was Head of Humanities at Blythe Hall School and run successful intensive revision courses during the holidays for a number of years as well as organising mentoring programs for children with specific learning needs.

Russ tutored me for preparation both my English Lit. and English Language GCSE Exams. I found him to be a very patient teacher and extremely knowledgeable. We studied in a variety of different ways (my favourite was playing the roles of the characters in the book Balzac and The Little Chinese Seamstress!). On the whole, I would recommend Russ to anyone looking for a fun way to be tutored!
