About Madison
Over twenty years I have taught 1050 students ESL, a career long enough that I have occasionally taught the children of students I first met many years earlier. My own understanding of language learning developed through extended work with newcomers building lives in a new country entirely. I am known among long-term students for being adaptable and endlessly patient, a reputation built from encountering nearly every kind of learning challenge over the decades. I remain just as genuinely engaged with a brand new beginner today as I was with my very first student two decades ago. My proudest achievements are the students who arrived convinced they could not learn English and left genuinely fluent.

After twenty years teaching ESL, flexibility defines my entire approach, since every student requires a genuinely different balance of structure and independence depending on their goals. With beginners I slow down considerably, relying on repetition and simple guided conversation, while with advanced students I shift toward independent discussion and workplace communication practice together. I draw on nearly two decades of accumulated teaching experience, usually already knowing several different explanations when a standard approach is not working for a particular student. Vocabulary and grammar are taught together with real cultural and workplace context, helping students understand English as a living, practical tool rather than an abstract subject. For certification preparation I rely on extensive mock assessments.
