About Kate

I have worked professionally in orchestras, shows, as a 'session' violinist on recordings and much more. As a violin teacher I have most recently taught at an independent boys prep school (Aldro in Surrey for 10 years), Thornbury Music (an after school music centre for all ages) and I have taught privately for 18 years. I have taught all ages from 5 year olds to pensioners and all levels from absolute beginners to diploma level violinists.

About the lesson

Learn violin from a seasoned professional! I have 30 years performing experience and 18 years teaching experience working at schools, music centres and privately. Fun, approachable lessons while focusing on great technique and making a beautiful sound. Most pupils (including adults) work towards ABRSM grades as this provides a goal and sense of achievement but a few opt to learn just for fun without exams. My pupils have 100% pass rate for ABRSM exams and some have gained music scholarships to top UK schools.

My daughter has been learning violin from Kate since the beginning from grade 1 - 8, followed by ARSM Diploma. Kate has been very patient and we are very grateful to have a violin teacher like Kate - she knows the syllabus of ABRSM and standard of exam very well, and at the same time she knows how to motivate and encourage my daughter when she was in junior school. Under Kate’s guidance, my daughter was awarded the music scholarship at 11+ from one of the top private senior school in England. I would highly recommend Kate!

We know Kate for over 7 years. She is amazing teacher! Kate paid excellent attention to my daughter. She was teaching not only violin but theory and composition which helped my daughter for her GCSE's composition course work. Kate is able to convey her knowledge with such a patience. Kate is such a fantastic violin teacher. She always strives for the best for her pupils. My daughter (who is 16 now) was a pupil of Kate for a long time and always really enjoyed her lessons.
