About Calla
I am a violin tutor with over 10 years of experience and hold a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. My background is rooted in classical training, giving students a strong technical foundation. I help learners explore modern expression on the violin, combining tradition with creativity. Lessons focus on bowing technique, vibrato, phrasing, and interpretation across Classical, Contemporary, and Cinematic styles. I have extensive experience preparing students for ABRSM and Trinity exams, ensuring they build confidence and achieve their performance goals. I also guide students in orchestral coaching, helping them develop ensemble skills, sight-reading, and stage presence. My teaching emphasizes precision, musicality, and expressive freedom. Students learn to combine technical mastery with emotional storytelling through music. Lessons are tailored to each student’s level and interests, fostering both skill development and personal musical expression. I encourage exploration, improvisation, and connection to the music, helping students find their unique voice on the violin. I invite learners to join me in a violin journey that blends classical rigor with modern creativity, making every performance expressive and meaningful.

My teaching approach for violin is hands-on, supportive, and story-driven. I help students overcome common challenges like poor posture, weak intonation, and wavering motivation.
Lessons begin with building a solid foundation, including proper bow hold, finger placement, and scale discipline. These basics create the structure students need to progress confidently.
I use exercises and small musical stories to make technique engaging and relatable. For example, students learn dynamics and phrasing by imagining a melody as a conversation or a dramatic scene.
I encourage learners to explore expressive playing while maintaining precision. This helps them gain both confidence and emotional connection to the music.
I provide consistent guidance on rhythm, intonation, and tone, while celebrating small improvements to boost motivation.
Students who struggle with focus or consistency learn structured practice methods that make progress tangible and rewarding.
I integrate repertoire practice with technique drills, helping students see how foundational skills translate into real musical performance.
Through gentle correction and creative challenges, learners gradually overcome technical hurdles and develop their own expressive style.
By the end of each lesson, students feel more confident, motivated, and connected to the music they play.
