About Vivien

Hi! I'm Vivien, a PPE graduate from a Russel group university with years of tutoring experience. Primarily I teach Maths and Physics though I also have experience tutoring other science subjects at pre GCSE Level. While I come from a science background, studying maths, further maths, physics as well as a year of chemistry at A level, I believe my cross subject degree gives me a broader perspective on the subjects enabling me to provide a different insight that can help more creative and humanities focused students. I have dyslexia and can very much empathise with students struggling in school after two very difficult years. I hope to provide reassurance and help students live up to their full potential, getting grades that they are proud of.

About the lesson

Maths in particular is a subject many students struggle with and this can go on to affect other areas of their study from the sciences to design technology. My focus as a tutor is to create a supportive environment where students can ask whatever questions they have without anxiety and together we can work to build up student's confidence. I strongly believe anyone can succeed in maths, they just need to be taught in a way that makes sense to them. No matter how that is from working with real world examples, discussion or creating revision tools, tutoring can help students learn what works well for them.

Primarily I use past papers and slowly work through questions with students, teaching them to quickly pick out the key information in any question. In addition I believe it is important students have a good understanding of the 'grammar' of mathematics to help them pick up new concepts more quickly as well as understand Why certain rules and formulas exist rather than only memorizing them
