About Freya
With 20 years of professional vocal coaching experience and a Doctor of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy, I have mentored singers preparing for international competitions, conservatory admissions, and professional recording projects. My doctoral research focused on advanced vocal technique optimisation and pedagogical innovation in contemporary voice training.
I believe exceptional vocal development requires disciplined structure, individualised mentorship, and artistic exploration. My teaching philosophy integrates scientific understanding of vocal physiology with creative interpretive coaching. Each student receives a customised development plan designed to align with their artistic vision while maintaining rigorous technical standards. Encouragement and detailed critique work together to foster resilience and long-term growth.
Beyond teaching, I remain actively engaged in performance collaborations, vocal research symposiums, and advanced repertoire study. Continuous professional engagement allows me to refine my instructional methods and remain aligned with evolving performance practices. My singing lessons are comprehensively structured to build advanced vocal technique while strengthening expressive individuality and performance resilience. At the beginning of our collaboration, I conduct a detailed vocal diagnostic assessment evaluating breath coordination, tonal stability, resonance placement, articulation clarity, register balance, and dynamic control. Foundational sessions emphasise diaphragmatic breath management, posture optimisation, vocal fold efficiency, and tension-free sound production. Carefully designed warm-up systems gradually expand range, agility, and stamina while protecting long-term vocal health.
As singers progress, we refine register transitions, vibrato control, tonal shading, diction precision, and stylistic interpretation across varied repertoire. I incorporate in-depth lyrical analysis and phrasing exploration to strengthen emotional storytelling and interpretive nuance. Targeted technical drills address challenges such as sustaining high notes with stability, expanding lower register resonance, and maintaining pitch consistency under dynamic variation. Detailed corrective feedback ensures measurable improvement in both technical execution and artistic expression.
Performance preparation remains central to my approach. I simulate professional stage environments, refine microphone technique and audience engagement strategies, and introduce cognitive conditioning exercises to manage performance anxiety effectively. Through structured rehearsal cycles and expressive refinement sessions, singers develop confidence, stage authority, and artistic maturity. My goal is to cultivate vocalists who combine disciplined technique with compelling and authentic performance presence.
