About Holly

I have always had a passion for singing. I’ve attended singing lessons myself since I was 10 years old, receiving my Grade 8 in Musical Theatre which sparked my love for performance, leading me to carry out a four-year vocals degree at BIMM College Dublin.

I always want to make a singing lesson fun, insightful and most importantly comfortable! Singing is a beautiful experience and something wonderful to become skilled in, however, I know that it is a vulnerable journey to go on with a stranger! This is why I love getting to know my students really well so that they can not only put their trust in me but also feel relaxed when it comes to making mistakes and trying new things! I focus on the personal goals of each of my students in every session and push them out of their comfort zone, just enough, so that they can grow and flourish into talented singers. My lessons are suitable for all ages and abilities.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I first developed my passion for music during my family's summer road trips around Europe. We would often spend up to thirteen hours in the car, and the only thing that kept me entertained was listening to music. During those long drives, I would immerse myself in albums from start to finish, connecting with the music, and it allowed me to fall in love with the voices of certain artists. I discovered the power of the voice as an instrument. There's something so raw and personal about how a voice can express emotion and tell a story, and that's why my favourite instrument is the voice.
  • 2. Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I tend to listen to a lot of indie folk music. It's the kind of genre I can put on repeat without ever getting tired of it. Artists like Wild Rivers, Jensen McRae, and Big Thief are some of my go-to picks.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

If I had to design a course, I think I'd call it "Soulful Expression: Finding Your Voice". The course would focus on the emotional and technical aspects of singing-yes, technique is important, but equally important is feeling the music and allowing your voice to express your emotions. I would teach students how to truly connect with the lyrics, how to release their emotions through their voice, and how to make their performance a reflection of their unique self.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I would say that the human voice is definitely a complicated instrument to master. Unlike the piano or guitar, the voice is invisible, personal, and shaped by everything from physical anatomy to emotions -your voice is uniquely you. But the beautiful twist is that it's also the instrument most accessible to everyone.

Mastery of the voice isn't about achieving perfection; it's about learning to connect with it, understanding its nuances, and building trust with yourself. There's so much to explore with the voice, whether it's finding the right breath control, understanding tonal qualities, or expressing emotion in a way that resonates with others. With the right guidance and dedication, anyone can unlock their full potential and achieve greatness in singing, which makes it such a fascinating and rewarding instrument to master.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

My keys to success are consistency, vulnerability, and a willingness to keep learning.

Consistency is crucial for progress. Whether it's practicing every day or showing up to challenges with dedication.

Vulnerability plays a huge role as well. Allowing yourself to make mistakes, and getting out of your comfort zone is where the real growth happens.

Lastly, a continuous commitment to learning is key. I believe that no matter what level you're at with singing, there's always room for improvement.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

If I could meet three musicians in my favourite bar in the early hours of the morning, I'd choose Miley Cyrus, Jensen McRae, and St. Vincent.

Miley Cyrus would be fascinating to talk to because I've always admired her ability to reinvent herself. I'd love to ask her about her different journeys of self-expression and how she felt about shedding certain personas she built, only to transform into something entirely new.

Jensen McRae would be another dream conversation. As a songwriter, her lyrics are so deeply moving, and I'd love to hear more about her songwriting process and where she draws her inspiration from.

Lastly, St. Vincent would be amazing to meet because of her fearless approach to music and art. Her ability to fuse rock, pop, and electronic elements into something completely her own is something I find so inspiring. I'd love to ask her about her creative process and how she approaches pushing the boundaries of what music can be.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

One of the most valuable lessons I've learned in relation to music is that you should never be afraid to make mistakes. The best learning comes from moments of vulnerability-when you let go of the fear of failure and just experiment.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

Creating a Fun Atmosphere: I believe that singing should feel like a joyful experience, so I make sure that every lesson is fun, lighthearted, and enjoyable, even when we're tackling challenging material.
Emotional Connection: I encourage my students to connect deeply with the music-whether it's through exploring lyrics, understanding the feeling behind the song, or even improvising. I truly believe that the best performances come when you pour your heart into the song.
Personalised Coaching: Every student is different, so I take the time to understand their voice, learning style, and musical goals. My lessons are always customised to fit their unique needs.
Building Confidence: Singing is very vulnerable, and many students struggle with confidence. I make it a priority to celebrate their progress, no matter how small, and to create an environment where they feel safe to express themselves.
