About Sinchana

I am currently studying at the University of Southern California where I am majoring in Arts, Technology, and the Business of Innovation at the Iovine and Young Academy (founded by none other than Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre!)

I am a classically trained musician with over 14 years of experience in Carnatic (South Indian Classical) Vocal music as well as western piano, but love exploring other genres and instruments!

Here are some of my musical highlights over the years!

Vocal:
- Completed my Carnatic vocal arangatrem last summer (3+ hours of continuous solo singing with improvisational elements similar to Jazz music)
- Won Second Place at the American Protege International Vocal Competition in the Broadway/Theater/Jazz Category & was invited to perform solo at Carnegie Hall
- Competed in several Carnatic vocal competitions & delivered solo and group performances throughout the Bay Area & Cleveland including invocations at the California Theater
- Performed with my high schools Acapella group for 3 years
- Started a rock band with some friends & performed at school dances/events!
- Currently part of USC Asli Baat, USC's premier South Asian fusion acapella team (currently ranked 9th in the nation!)

Piano:

- Completed all 10 levels of the Certificate of Merit exams (practical & theory portions) (Awards: Advanced Certification & State Honors Award)
- Won First Place at the Elite International Music Competition in the Advanced Piano Category and was invited to play at Carnegie Hall
- Won Third Place at US International Open Music Competition

About the lesson

As a vocal tutor specializing in multiple vocal styles, my approach is centered around cultivating a deep understanding of each student's unique voice and musical preferences. I employ a holistic teaching methodology that combines technical vocal training with stylistic exploration, tailoring my lessons to help students develop their artistic expression and reach their full vocal potential.

My teaching techniques are rooted in the fundamentals of vocal technique, such as breath control, resonance, and vocal health. However, I go beyond the basics by introducing students to various vocal styles, including pop, rock, jazz, and more. This cross-genre approach allows students to explore and experiment with different vocal textures, interpretations, and performance techniques.

A typical lesson plan with me would involve:

1. Warm-up exercises tailored to the student's vocal range and style preferences.
2. Technical exercises focusing on breath support, resonance, and diction.
3. Style-specific coaching, exploring the nuances of phrasing, articulation, and interpretation within different musical genres.
4. Constructive feedback and goal-setting to continuously improve and refine the student's vocal abilities.

What sets me apart as a vocal tutor is my passion for celebrating the unique voice of each student and my commitment to fostering their artistic growth. I believe in creating a supportive and nurturing environment where students feel empowered to take risks, explore their vocal capabilities, and develop their personal artistry.
