About Patricia

¡Hola! I’m Patricia Hernandez. When you learn with me, you aren't just getting a tutor—you are getting a partner who understands the "real world" stakes of communication. Originally from Venezuela and having lived in Argentina, I offer a rich, diverse perspective on the Spanish language, from the Caribbean's warmth to the unique rhythms of the South. Why trust me with your journey? I have spent years acting as a bridge between English and Spanish. Through my customer service background and my time as a volunteer, I have dedicated myself to helping people communicate when it matters most. I’ve assisted community members in navigating essential services, and I know exactly how it feels when you can’t find the right word. I’ve seen firsthand how a little bit of help can turn a stressful situation into a successful connection. I am currently a pre-med student, pursuing my medical degree in English while practicing and maintaining my studies in Spanish. Because I am a student too, I am "in the trenches" with you. I understand the cognitive load of learning a language, and I’ve developed specialized techniques to make complex ideas simple, relatable, and easy to remember. Whether you are looking to travel with confidence, connect with family, or simply have a conversation without the "mental fog," I bring a high level of professionalism, patience, and first-hand experience to every lesson. I have lived the struggle of the language gap, and I am here to help you cross it.

My Teaching Method:
I believe that language is a tool for connection, not a list of rules to be memorized. My approach is based on Natural Acquisition, which mimics how we learned our first language as children.

Contextual Learning: Instead of flashcards, we learn through storytelling and role-playing. You’ll learn how to order coffee by actually "ordering coffee" with me, not by conjugating the verb "to drink" fifty times.

Gentle Correction: I don't stop you mid-sentence to point out a minor gender-agreement error. My goal is to keep your "flow" going. We address corrections at the end of each speaking block so your confidence stays high.

A Typical 60-Minute Lesson Plan

No two lessons are exactly the same because they are tailored to your goals, but a standard session follows this flow:

The "Cafecito" Catch-up (10 mins): We start with low-pressure small talk about your day or week in Spanish. This warms up your "Spanish brain."

The Theme of the Day (15 mins): We introduce a real-world scenario (e.g., navigating an airport, chatting at a party, or discussing a Netflix show). I’ll provide the "survival phrases" you need.

Active Practice (20 mins): This is the "output" phase. We do a guided activity where you do 70% of the talking. I act as your safety net.

The "Chisme" & Culture Corner (10 mins): I teach you one slang word, a cultural "do or don't," or a song from my home country.

Cool Down & Action Plan (5 mins): We recap what we learned, and I’ll give you a "fun" homework assignment—like listening to a specific podcast or texting me a photo of something you did using a new phrase.

What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart is that I am a Native Language Guide, not a rigid professor.

Real-World Slang: I’ll teach you the difference between "textbook Spanish" and how people actually talk on the streets of Latin America

Zero Judgment Zone: I’ve been a language learner myself, so I know how scary it feels to make a mistake. My classes are a safe space to "mess up" until you get it right.

Customized Content: If you love cooking, we’ll learn Spanish through recipes. If you’re a doctor, we’ll focus on medical terms. I build the curriculum around your life.

Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are designed for anyone who wants to use Spanish in their real life, specifically:

Adult Beginners: People who are starting from scratch and feel intimidated by big language schools.

The "Plateau" Learner: You know some basics but feel "stuck" and can’t seem to have a fluid conversation.

Travelers: Those preparing for a trip or a move who need "survival" Spanish fast.

Family & Partners: People who want to connect more deeply with their Spanish-speaking in-laws, partners, or heritage.
