• Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

  I am from the Dominican Republic, Trigeña, and in love with my island. And I want to share my culture and language with you.

• Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

  Poet Laureate of the Dominican Republic, Pedro Mir. That, with over 100 titles, helped shape the literacy of the Dominican Republic. His work is still studied today in all schools on the island, and his name is known around the world.

• Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behaviour in the language that you particularly like?

  Dominicans talk fast, and it is like we have a language that is not even Spanish. And what I love about this is that as soon as you hear someone speak like this, you know they are Dominican. And immediately create this bond with this stranger.

• Why does speaking this language matter to you?

  It is the language that shaped my culture. I am proud of it and show it by teaching it to as many people as possible.

• 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

  Spanish can be challenging because of the different ways it is spoken throughout Spanish-speaking countries. My goal is to teach practical, real Spanish. Spanish you can understand and use.

• Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

  I was in 6th grade, and I had to read and make a report on the book Chao by Lygia Bojunga. Although I was the best reader in my class, reading at a 9th-grade level, I misspelled the title on my report for CHAU. A simple typo got me a B instead of a well-deserved A. And that's when I learned about the importance of attention to detail. These types of books were my favorite growing up, and I would read for hours on end and write reports just for fun sometimes, but a U instead of an O changed that for me. And as an act of revenge, I started reading more complex titles.

• How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

  I am lucky that my parents always took my sisters and me on road trips around the island and me. So I know my island from north to south and west to east. Learning from the different people and regions of the island has shaped my understanding of the other words we use only in the Dominican Republic. And how we change the meaning of the words depending on the region we are at. So many cultures on one little island. What a treasure of a place.

• What makes you a Superprof in language?

  You will not find a teacher as committed as me. I am 100% committed to your success. Teaching is my passion, my hobby, not my career. I do this with love. I want to teach as many people as I can. Bring a little bit of my culture to my student's hearts.
